E92 Coupe Fragen/Questions (English)

  • Ok looks like due to economical reasons I will probably get a diesel. What do you guys think of the diesels, how do they perform and which Diesel engines are reliable :)

Also how many owners do I look on the vehicle? Since I was looking for only 1 Owner cars and there are like 20% of all E92s, there are many 2 owner vehicles.

  • If the initial registration was on a car dealer (e.g. as a demonstration car) and the second one to a private owner, that's also normal. It looks like some N47 (318/320 ... maybe all of them, a hassle-topic) engines have problems. One the other hand, if you just search for it, then all engines have any weak spot.

  • Hi guys, I haven't updated this thread in a while so I started searching for some cars now and I have re-updated my budget to 25,000 EUR (with VAT Return) (20,000 EUR without VAT Return) and I have changed my desire for a diesel, I do 99% busy traffic so I guess a diesel is more suited for me.

I have my money ready and now I am waiting for a high school friend who will go with me and translate German for me and take care of the documents.

Here is what I found so far in diesels:

All within my new price range.
    What do you think?
I have contacted some of the owners and currently waiting on a response, most of these vehicles are from a private owner.

  • As already writen, you are not eligible for a VAT return when buying from a private seller.

And the professional sellers from your ads will probably not fill the necessary forms as mentioned.

If you really want or need a VAT return, go for a BMW dealer.

  • That is the right place as only BMW dealers can post ads there.

However, you still need a company as the previous owner. Be it as company car or as a lease car which was driven by a private person, but still owned by the lease company.

Therefore, you should ask directly for a VAT return for export, because the normal VAT return means return via yearly tax declaration which you cannot do without being a resident in Germany and having a company on your own.

  • Guys I am back :D, and I have something to ask regarding the 330D E92.

    The E92 330D comes with 2 engines, the M57 and the N57.
The M57 is the one that was used in the E46 330D (which a friend made over 300,000 KM on it) made of iron and as far as I know it's bulletproof
And the N57 is the new one made out of aluminium, much lighter with less emissions.

However I heard that the new N57 shares the same timing isues with the other N series like the N47, N46, N42 etc. And they even put the timing chain at the back of the engine, so more labor and bigger problems.
While the old 231 HP M57 doesn't have this timing chain issue and the timing chain is at the front. Also has bigger emission (which I don't care, no emission laws here).

So what do you guys think, will the M57 be a better option than the N57 engine?
Are there any actual drawbacks of the M57?
